CyberNest CAD · Windows drawing management

Know who’s editing.
Keep the drawing history.

A shared drawing workspace on your server, accessed through Windows Explorer. Give your team a clear way to open, edit, save and recover CAD files, with administration in one place.

Available to evaluate through a supervised pilot.

One drawing.
A clear path through the team.

An illustrative workflow. The product is tested against your applications and project structure during a pilot.

01 / Find

Open the project in Explorer.

Browse the projects you are authorized to access. Online-only drawings download when needed; keep selected files on the device when regular access matters.

02 / Edit

Take ownership of the edit.

Opening a managed editable drawing through the configured CAD integration requests an edit lock. If a colleague owns it, the managed workflow provides a read-only copy instead.

03 / Save

Return changes to the server.

Saved changes use the managed commit path. Unchanged chunks can be reused during upload; the reconstructed file is checksum-verified before replacing the server copy.

04 / Review

Revisit an earlier version.

Open a historical read-only copy to review it. An authorized user can restore a previous version when the drawing is not open or locked.

What your team gets.

Capabilities in the current product, explained through the work they support.

A familiar Windows workspace

An Explorer navigation entry provides project and file browsing. Cloud, downloaded and pinned states show file availability. “Always keep on this device” keeps selected files locally; “Free up space” returns downloaded files to online-only storage.

Managed drawing ownership

Edit locks identify the owner and device; heartbeats keep an active lock alive and leases allow stale locks to expire. The configured CAD launcher and restricted direct access to the server workspace are essential to this workflow.

History you can inspect

Use the Explorer version-history command to open previous read-only copies or request an authorized restore. Restoring an open or locked drawing is rejected. Historical downloads are also available through the portal.

Project access & administration

A browser-based administration portal manages users, project memberships and folder rules. CyberNest accounts are available, with Windows identity for configured domain deployments. A known multi-project manager permission issue remains a release gate.

Efficient saves, checked for integrity

Delta uploads reuse unchanged chunks in the managed save path. SHA-256 checks verify reconstructed content. Initial file downloads transfer the whole drawing; transfer savings depend on the actual changes and are not a promised percentage.

Activity & recovery tools

Audit history records events such as lock activity, commits and failures. Server-state export supports recovery of configuration, users, permissions and metadata. Drawing files need their own backup; the export is not a complete drawing backup.

Read-only access during interruptions

The workstation provides an offline read-only fallback for available cached files. An online-only file needs the server to download. Treat editing and reconnection behavior as explicit pilot checks for your environment.

CAD-aware file handling

The product discovers DWG, DXF, DWT, DWS, DWF and DWFX files. Editable documents use the managed locking path; published DWF and DWFX documents use read-only handling. Application versions, XREFs and save behavior require compatibility testing.

Your server. Your Windows workspace.

Three connected parts, with clear operational responsibilities.

The server

A Windows service manages the authoritative MASTER drawing workspace and serves the administration portal. You choose the storage location. Plan storage capacity, service access, trusted HTTPS or an independently protected network route, and backup of both drawings and server state.

The workstation

The workstation installer brings together the app, tray and CAD file integration. Explorer on-demand storage uses the Windows Cloud Files API on local NTFS storage. The server authorizes downloads; local copies are checked for integrity.

The deployment work

Configure accounts, project rules, managed CAD associations and NTFS/SMB access so ordinary users cannot bypass the edit workflow by writing directly to MASTER. Check the intended LAN or protected remote connection and document recovery procedures.

Choose it for the workflow you need.

Evaluate fit through a demonstration using representative files, not a feature-count comparison.

A reason to evaluate CyberNest CAD

Your team works in Windows, keeps authoritative drawings on a server and needs managed editing and recoverable history around that setup. You want to understand both the software and the infrastructure that supports it.

What to bring to the demonstration

A typical project folder, XREF structure, application versions and examples of how edits are handed between colleagues. Ask to see two-user contention, a normal save, an earlier version and an interrupted connection.

Where the scope ends

CyberNest CAD does not create or edit drawings itself. It does not claim real-time co-authoring, BIM model coordination, browser CAD markups, formal construction approvals or feature parity with a broad cloud collaboration platform.

What a successful pilot establishes

Your actual applications can open and save correctly, project access matches the agreed roles, locking behaves across workstations, and recovery works as expected. Capacity and performance must be measured on your equipment and network.

We start with your environment, then agree a limited pilot and its acceptance checks.

Will it replace my CAD application?

No. You continue to use your CAD editor. CyberNest CAD manages the surrounding drawing access, editing ownership, saved history and administration.

Can two people edit the same drawing together?

The managed workflow gives one user edit ownership at a time. Other users can receive a read-only copy. It does not provide simultaneous co-authoring of the same drawing.

Can I use an existing server or a remote connection?

An existing Windows server can be assessed. Review storage, permissions, Windows requirements and capacity before choosing it. Remote work needs an approved protected network route; public exposure of the default HTTP listener is not a deployment plan.

Does version history replace backups?

No. Keep a separate backup and recovery plan for authoritative drawings, version storage and server state. Test restoring the intended setup as part of deployment planning.

How do we move from our current shared folders?

Review the folder structure, account access and XREF paths first. Use a bounded test project to verify the managed workflow, then agree migration, user training and rollback steps before changing the wider environment.
